So the question is does Jumia have an affiliate program?

Well, yes, Jumia does have a self-hosted affiliate program called the Jumia Kol Program.

Formerly, when the jumia affiliate program had started in 2012, it was handled by a third-party Affiliate network, CJ.

But due to the complication and inflexibility that Nigerians experienced in registering and receiving money in dollars, they had to move over to an in-house setup.

And they called it the Jumia Kol Program.

Just as the norms of all other affiliate programs, the deal is to refer customers to purchase products from Jumia, while you earn money.

The Jumia affiliate program is pretty much easy to join and free as well. All you have to do is head over to their sign-up page and fill in the necessary information.

However, you’ll need to wait for a minimum of 3 days to either get your application approved or declined.

One thing I love about the program is its support for the deep linking feature. Meaning that you can create an affiliate link for just any page at Jumia.

Also, by joining the program, you’ll get access to a library of attractive banners, Newsletters, Products feeds, etc.

How to Join the Jumia Affiliate Program

All you need to do is to navigate to the Jumia affiliate program landing page to apply. 

On reaching there, you’ll be asked to fill in some information including your names, Email address, Promotion type, country, phone number, and Website/social media.

Then, you’ll need to verify your email address.

Jumia takes a minimum of 3 days to perform a manual check on your site before it gets approved.

This is done to make sure websites partnering with Jumia are of high quality and in no way spammy.

The best part of it all is that you have access to promote and of these, as you become a Jumia affiliate.

Products Authenticity:

Jumia as a brand is a trustworthy brand; everyone knows of it, this way.

I have ordered products a couple of times from the platform, and I Can say, they are quite reliable.

You don’t need to think twice about referring them to your prospects. Moreover, they’re the leading eCommerce store in Nigeria.

This is, however, not a rule for all. I have heard of people that have bought fake products from the company.

Well, it might be true. And in this situation, it could be a result of vendor mistakes.

Is the Jumia affiliate program reliable?

Well, I can’t really say.

In my case, it has been working well, so far. I haven’t had many problems with them, except for some payment delays.

But again, that’s not a rule. There are so many complaints that the platform isn’t genuine and straightforward, from lots of people.

Before joining the program, I was almost discouraged by all the negative reviews I found.

But I later discovered one thing; these claims of Jumia ingenuity could be true, but I think it was in the past.

Most of these articles saying that the Jumia affiliate program is a scam are all from 2018, which is pretty much backward.

Product Relevance:

The Jumia Kol program is an eCommerce affiliate program. So, basically, it can fit almost every niche.

Either way, always make sure your audience finds Jumia helpful and not the other way round.

For better conversion, every affiliate program you join should be relevant to your niche.

Commission Rate of the Jumia Affiliate Program

Compared to the likes of the Konga affiliate program, the Jumia Kol program’s commission rate is way better.

For instance, whereas Konga fashion products have a commission rate of 4%, in Jumia, you could earn as much as 8%-11% for fashion products.

The Jumia affiliate program appears to be similar to the Target affiliate program.

As it follows the trend of paying more to affiliates for an increasing number of sales.

In other words, the more you sell on Jumia, the more your commission rate increases.

According to the company, there’ll be an increase of 2% commission if you refer over 50 orders.

Relative to the Nigerian system, Jumia has a fairly standard commission rate.

Payment Structure of the Jumia Affiliate Program 

The Jumia affiliate program has a pretty much straightforward payment structure for affiliate marketers.

After a product is ordered from your affiliate link, it takes about a week to weeks before your order is confirmed.

This is done to make sure the item is not returned, canceled, or delivered before payment can be issued.

The payments of all confirmed orders will then be issued in the first week of the coming month.

So, for example, if you make a request for withdrawal in March, you’ll be paid in the first week of April.

The Jumia affiliate program has only one payment option. You can receive your jumia affiliate program’s commission only via bank transfers.

But before that, you must have reached the minimum threshold of 3,500 Naira before payment can be processed.

Cookie Duration of the Jumia Affiliate Program

The Jumia affiliate program has a cookie duration (referral period) of 7 days. 

This is poor compared to Konga’s cookie duration of 60 days and a bit better than the Walmart 3 days cookie.

All in all, 3 days cookie duration is a decent referral period. But can be disadvantageous when promoting high ticket products.

But wait…what are cookies?

Cookies are a set of data packets that contain sensitive information shared between a website and browser.

This information could be login info, orders in Cart (even without being signed in), or even affiliate marketing referral data.

And when someone clicks on your affiliate links this referral data is being stored on the person’s browser.

Using this information, Affiliate networks like Jumia would now be able to track your referral’s impression, purchase, and every other necessary thing.

And as long as the referral data is on the user’s browser, if he purchases the product, you’ll earn your due commission, even without him going back to click on your affiliate, for the second time.

But, the thing is that there’s usually a lifetime, determining how long the referral data would be stored on the person’s browser.

This lifetime, they call it the Cookie duration.

And in the case of Jumia, the cookie duration is 7 days.

How we Made over 150K Naira with the Jumia Affiliate Program

So, Here’s what we did.

At the time of joining the Jumia affiliate program, we already had up to 4 websites, of Which 2 were doing well.

So, we decided to do a massive promotion of Jumia affiliate products on these websites.

And then, we decided to create massive amounts of content, with buyers’ intent, on these websites.

We also wanted to target products in the categories that had high commission rates like Fashion, Watches and sunglasses, Baby, toys and Kids products, Health and beauty, etc.

I could recall vividly when we created an article on “Best Smartwatches in Nigeria.” 

This article had a primary aim to drive potential buyers to use our affiliate links to purchase a smartwatch – that’s the buyer’s intent we’re talking about.

Because, obviously, the only reason why someone would be searching for the “best smartwatches” is only if he wants to buy them.

If you can make a solid unbiased and well-detailed review on those products, you’d make sales if you get traffic to the page.

So, a few months after making these reviews, we were able to rank high on Google SERPs, and traffic started coming in.

And in no time, we were already making sales from just that product.

Yes, we used content marketing on our websites as our affiliate marketing strategy.

Pros and Cons of the Jumia Affiliate Program

Is the Jumia affiliate program worth promoting? What are the pros and cons of the program?

Pros:

• A Well by Known brand – Jumia is the leading brand in the eCommerce industry of Nigeria. Os, there’s a guaranteed high conversion rate, when promoting Jumia.
• Relatively good commission rate – When compared to other eCommerce affiliate programs in Nigeria, Jumia appears to be the most favorable, in terms of commission rate.

• Deep Linking – Jumia affiliate program supports Deep linking for affiliates. Meaning that you can link to any page on Jumia with your affiliate link.

Cons:

• Poor Cookie Duration – A cookie duration of 7 days is not just enough to guarantee a high conversion rate.

Alternatives of the Jumia affiliate program

Relatively, there are not many alternatives of the Jumia affiliate program.

… especially when talking about a country like Nigeria.

There are basically two prominent online stores in Nigeria; Jumia and Konga.

While they’re both competitors, they have a lot of similarities, as well as differences.

The best is part is that, this two online stores both have affiliate programs.

Looking at the closest alternative to the Jumia Affiliate Program, I only have one program in mind – Konga affiliate program.

Including those that requires you to have a website and those that doesn’t.

Relatively, the Jumia affiliate program is a good one, at least for a start, in Nigeria.

If you’re looking forward to promoting an affiliate product in Nigeria, then you can consider joining Jumia’s program.

Their commission rate that goes up to 11% is favorable to affiliate marketers. And as a popular brand, you could be sure your driven traffic would convert well.

On the other hand, the 7 days cookie duration is poor. And I expect Jumia to do better.
