Nigeria is one country I can say that is really repulsive in doing affiliate marketing.

Obviously, this is because of the lots of scams involved in it that have been practiced in the country.

However, tables are changing now.

For the past 5 years, there has been a lot of interest in affiliate marketing. Resulting in more and more authentic companies engaging in it.

However, we can’t deny the fact that there are still scams out there.

The question here’s that; Is the Konga affiliate program among those scams? Or is it Authentic?

Founded in 2012, Konga is a leading eCommerce company based in Lagos State, Nigeria.

With a dedicated goal of becoming the future African engine of e-commerce and trade, Konga is gradually achieving its dreams as it tops the industry.

Currently, Konga is the 4th leading online marketplace in Africa, after Jumia, Takealot, and Souq, with a monthly busy of 2.3 million people.

Similar to Amazon, Konga works basically in two ways.

The retail company started as an online mall, where products offered on the platform were owned by the company.

However, in the early months of 2014, Konga had to move from being an online mall to a marketplace.

There are lots of products available at Konga, ranging from fashion, home appliances, books, children’s items, to computers and accessories,phones, tablets, health care, and the list goes on.

Konga Affiliate Program (Yuboss) – Overview

So the question is; Does Konga have an affiliate program

Konga has an affiliate program termed Yuboss, which has been in existence since 2015.

As per the norms of affiliate marketing, by referring users to purchase products that fall under the promotable category in Konga, you’ll earn a certain commission.

The Konga affiliate program is free to join and easy as well. All you need to do is to head over to their sign up page and the rest should be on autopilot.

The Konga Affiliate Program, however, is not self-hosted. You’d need to make use of a third party to access it.

One thing I don’t like about the program (Yuboss) is its indulgence in a poorly performing affiliate network, Post Affiliate Pro.

Additionally, Konga’s affiliate program operates on a last-click attribution model.

In affiliate marketing, The last-click attribution is a popular affiliate marketing model that rewards the last clicked affiliate link, a commission.

So even if someone had clicked on your affiliate link earlier but decided to go and check a review on the product. 

If by any means, they Click on another affiliate link, the last click would be awarded a commission.

One thing you should never fall prey to is promoting a scam product. You really need to watch out for this so you don’t end up ruining your reputation.

Konga, on the other hand, has proven to be an authentic company.

Personally, I’ve bought a lot of products with them. And for what I can say, I have not had any issues with them.

However, if we head over to trustpilot, the reverse is actually the case.

Commission Rate of the Konga Affiliate Program

As you should know, the Konga affiliate program has a varying commission rate based on the categories of products.

The commission rate is basically divided into 4 levels; Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3.

Here is a breakdown of the commission rate of the Konga affiliate program;

Globally, these commission rates are not very welcoming compared to that of big brands like Target and Nike which offer a maximum of 8% and 11%, respectively.

The truth is that the Commission Rates of the Konga affiliate program really changed, negatively.

Formerly, as far back as 2015, you could earn up to 9% for tier 4 products and around 6% for tier 1 products.

Payment Structure of the Konga Affiliate Program

Konga’s affiliate program has an easygoing payment structure, especially if you’re based in Nigeria.

Payments on the program are being transacted through Konga’s shopping payment wallet.

So for any withdrawal you make, it’d be directed to your Konga Wallet. And from there, you can go further to withdraw your money, through bank transfer.

Konga has a default minimum threshold of 10,000 nairas. However, you can adjust it to whatever amount you want; from 10,000 to around 35,000.

It’s, however, advisable you go for a lower threshold like the default of 10,000 naira. So you don’t get your money stocked up to reach a certain amount which might be impossible for you, at the moment.

So what about the Payment Cycle?

Firstly, after every sale you make, your commission would have to be pending for a week before it gets approved.

This is to Verify whether or not your referrals were able to make the purchase successfully.

In a case, where your referrals return or cancel the order, your commission would be dismissed, equally.

Additionally, Konga affiliate’s commissions are paid on the 30th of every month, after the commission is verified.

Cookie Duration of the Konga Affiliate Program

The Konga Affiliate Program (Yuboss) gave a really nice shot, in terms of their cookie duration.

The program has a long-lasting cookie duration (referral period) of over 60 days. This is way better than most affiliate programs like Shein, Wish, AliExpress, and Fiverr.

At least, the affiliate marketing industry has a standard cookie duration of 30 days – And that’s what you’d find in most affiliate programs.

So, what’s all about Cookies in affiliate marketing, and what do they do?

Generally, a cookie is a file that contains a set of data packets, shared between a website and a web browser.

This information shared is usually sensitive.

And they do contain information like login details, products in carts (even when not signed in), and, most significantly, affiliate referral data.

This referral data is literally saved on the user’s browser when someone clicks on your affiliate link.

Affiliate networks will be able to track your referrals, sales, and other activities as a result of this stored data.

Although users can delete cookies on their own by clearing cache, they are usually given a duration to stay on browsers.

The time interval of when these cookies remain on the user’s browser is what we call Cookie duration.

In this case of Konga, the program would be able to track a click on your affiliate link for 60 days.

So let’s say someone clicks on your affiliate link but decides to do some other research or save up money.

If they return to purchase the product, you’d earn your due commission, even without your link being clicked twice, so far it’s within the 60 days 

 cookie duration.

How we Made over N200,000 with Konga Affiliate Program

Oh yes, we’ve made over 200K from the Konga affiliate program.

Here’s how we did it;

Even though you can do affiliate marketing without a website, having a website is more like a prerequisite for success.

Majorly, we played out an affiliate marketing game with Konga, using a website-centric approach.

Meaning that we promoted the Konga affiliate link by only using a few of our websites.

And that’s why I said earlier that having a website is more like a prerequisite for maximum and long-term sales.

So this is what we did…

We already had about two well-performing websites. Of Which, both receive over 5,000 to 10,000 monthly visitors.

So, is the Konga affiliate program worth the hassle? What are the Pros and cons of the program?

Pros

• Popular Brand – There’s always a big difference between promoting a popular company and a new company. Konga is a leading company in the eCommerce industry in Nigeria, so there’s assurance your conversion rate would be decent.

• Trustworthy – Konga has a large fan base, and it’s known for its authenticity.

• Long Cookie Duration – A 60 days cookie duration is a considerate option to affiliate marketers.

• Deep Linking – Konga affiliate program supports Deep linking, giving affiliates the ability to link to any products available on Konga.

Cons

• Poor Commission Rate – The program’s commission rate is relatively poor compared to the industry’s average. Konga can do better.

Alternatives of Konga Affiliate Program

Relatively, there is no much competition in the affiliate marketing system in Nigerian.

There are just a few…of which many are tagged scams.

We can’t tell…but we know of two prominent online stores in the country I.e Konga and Jumia.

Thank goodness, this stores both have affiliate programs.

And they’re for sure, the best alternatives to each other, since they’re most likely the same.

So yeah, as it stands now, the best alternative to Konga’s program, is Jumia affiliate program.

With its long Cookie duration and as a leading eCommerce store with millions of customers, you can be sure your traffic will convert well.

On the other hand, the program’s commission rate is really poor, below the norms.
